  • I personally work in the film industry. I know how hostile sets are right now. the sets in Canada have covid team members, who are on everybody every single second. Along with the fact that we are actually supposed to check each other. And make sure we're all following the proper protocols. I'm not going to hate on Tom cruise, he didn't need to swear at the guy. But his message was well and properly put. Especially considering that he has financial stake in the game. The more times they shut down the longer it takes for him to get back to his family. Or just onto the next project in general. So I understand why he would be so annoyed. Being able, to still feel movies and television shows. Pisses off a lot of the general population. When we're out there filming everybody is watching you, and seeing if you're making any mistakes. So they can post it and act like that is how you behave. There is a lot of conversation between government and productions, to be able to still film. Too many productions, have covid outbreaks. That show is shut down. And moving forward other shows might not get the opportunity to film, because past mistakes of other shows. The film industry is a billion dollar business in Canada. It's a lot of jobs and a lot of money on the line.

  • The point is not Mr. Cruise's relative level of power or his background in using said power. The point is his position within the production. He has a responsibility to all of those crew members. If he does not perform, if he does not lead the production to a successful conclusion, they do not get paid. Similarly, if they contribute to an industry shut down, that responsibility falls TO HIM. Effectively Mr. Cruise is akin to a general or a CEO. Sometimes officers need to yell and scream. Not only because of the magnitude of the consequences, but because of the responsibility they have to everyone under them and to the masses who will be effected by the actions of those under them.

  • I hate scientology but have respect for what Tom did. Don't like being shouted at? DON'T BREAK THE RULES THEN. You have people saying he's punching down yet at the same time you have shows like scared straight that sends CHILDREN TO PRISON. Sometimes people need to drink a healthy cup of shut the fuck up juice along with their slice of humble pie. If someone is stating facts at/about you, be it nicely or yelling, and those facts make you feel bad, THAT IS YOUR CONSCIENCE TELLING YOU THAT THEY HAVE A POINT AND THAT YOU ACTUALLY AGREE WITH IT. Feel bad? BE A BETTER PERSON THEN AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.

  • The thing that’s wrong with the Tom cruise audio is people’s reaction- “oh I don’t think people of power should scream and rant at people in a lower role, well unless it’s something I agree with them obviously its ok” it’s a very slippery slope and you can get your point across with out screaming and it being recorded. Doesn’t the film industry have written formal warnings like other work places ?

  • Sure, Tom was a little harsh, but we don't know if he has been experiencing people breaking rules regularly, and he had enough. He should definitely have been more calm and more "diplomatic" about his message. But is he wrong to shout? Maybe, maybe not, we don't know everything about what happened before. Sometimes its okay to berate someone who has been repeatedly doing bad work after giving them several diplomatic reprimands, or breaking rules like Covid guidelines. I think its a bit much, he seems very angry, but because we don't know the history, we cant judge immediately.

    Jonah ThraneJonah Thrane9 dögum síðan
  • Even though I really don't like Tom Cruise, I do think his action was justifiable. He really must be in a lot of stress trying to this movie as safely as possible during a pandemic. The audio also does not address how things escalated to the point of shouting and such.

  • I stopped doing sex work when COVID started for safety reasons, but I was doing it to get money to put me through school. Just so people know, I had grants, I had scholarships, I took out loans, and I had three other jobs at the time, but that still wasn't enough. I got all my food from the food pantry on campus but still only ate 1 meal a day because they had an item limit. So in order to not get evicted or my enrollment canceled for non-payment, I took some clothes from the local free pile and got to work. I lost my virginity to a 68 year old man when I was only a week over 19, and a sophmore in college. These clients would abuse me, engaging in BDSM, taking off condoms, doing anal sex whenever they wanted, and they just used me however they wanted. One client took me to an orgy and watched me be fucked by man after man. It wasn't glamorous. They didn't get me any nice jewelry or take me on exotic vacations or out to fancy dinners. I would take public transportation to a hotel or their houses, be used for 5 hours, tossed $200, and then I would take public transportation back to my dorm. It was that, drop out of college, or be homeless. There was no easy option and I've done what I've had to do. I'm not ashamed of any of my decisions and I would still make the same ones even knowing how it goes. Luckily, I'm in my last semester of school now and I have a little bit of money tucked away from my sex work, so I'll be able to get through, but realize that when you're starving, homeless, and trying to make a better life for yourself, the only thing you have to earn money with is your body, and the only reason people want a woman's body is for sex.

  • Honestly I think more people need to get this telling off. I get that it sounds berating, but this is likely a culmination of a number of incidents that just broke the camel's back. There is too much flagrant disregard of guidelines and the weight that Tom Cruise puts on the situation is really justified when you consider how many people have lost jobs, sold homes and generally have had their lives turned upside down partially because of these irresponsible people. Dealing with it privately would not have sent the powerful message that this situation merits.

  • With Tom Cruise. People not following guidelines is ruining it for everybody else. Angry at people who are not taking this seriously. The place I worked took the virus seriously with protocol, enforcing masks, cleaning and we were able to operate only having 3 or 4 people get the virus this whole year. If everyone had this attitude we could all get back to our lives a lot sooner. Only takes one person thinking of themselves to ruin things for the whole crew.

  • If you're upset that he raised his voice and was yelling you didn't get the message at all. There is more at stake than one person. You can look at multiple industries that have had to shut down such as restaurants, film, sports and so on. Oh did your feelings get hurt because some guy said he'd fire you if you didn't follow guidelines? Get your shit together. There were 3 months without sports, restaurants have gone under and people have the audacity to say Cruise could have conveyed this message another way. This is life and death in terms of money and disease. We can't hold people's hands when they break rules.

I don't care what position he is in. He probably told them many many many times and he had enough. He's still a person. He has every right to vent. He got his money by making movies. • No matter how righteous the cause, that outburst was purely Tom Cruise being a diva. It's the film industry. Those crew members report to someone else from a different company who's on a contract with the main filming company. Tom Cruise may be a star on set but he's no boss. Even if he's a boss/producer at the main filming company, he's still not the boss of those crew members. He can't just fire people willy-nilly without understanding the issue here. Instead he should talk to the actual boss of those crew members about why they needed to crowd around a laptop to work when they're supposed to be so strict about guidelines. Stress also doesn't excuse his shouting. It's because these people like to think it does that we have people being beaten up or killed every day.

    • @Anthony Peters so you think he should have just fired them on the spot instead of just shouting at them and giving a warning?

    • What Tom Cruise did was voice his concerns by Yelling at the crew members in an Angery tone of voice! Insted of immediately reporting the crew members and having their contracts terminated!

  • Okay so im confused, karens who believe wearing a mask will make them spontaneously combust can physically attack people for not wanting to wear one but a celebrity yells at his employees for not following protocol? Like every other boss? I understand if the cussing and was much but to me he just sounds like an extremely stressed out boss whos worried about his employees. Tom cruise isnt going to loose his home or worry about food on his plate for a single movie, hes mad cause he cares and thats pretty clear here.

  • there is no reason to yell at another adult.. you can get your point across without being a belligerent asshole. IDC how valid your point is. It loses its validity when all people remember is how shitty you made them feel.

    • NO YOUR WRONG! death of SARS-CoV-II Incase you dont know Effectively, Tom Cruise saved their jobs! too far is too far HOWEVER, In MAnagement or postions of authority due to the nature of the action of emmployees, your anger towards the action, and the emotional sesitivity of some employees..it's a catch 22 ... you get yelled at or terminated! I'd rather get yelled at some day's and Keep my job then be silently terminated! What Tom Cruise did was voice he concerns by Yelling at the crew members in an Angery tone of voice! Insted of immediately reporting the crew members and having their contracts terminated! NO! YOU EITHER COMPLIE OR STAY THE FUCK HOME!
