  • I will never stick up for people like Olivia Jade because even though she was only 18, 18 year olds have enough common sense to know what was right and wrong in those kinds of situations. Does she regret it now because her family got caught? Of course, but I have no doubt she'll do something else because of her social class that lands her in another one of these types of scandals. Rich people will stay entitled if we keep giving them second chances like this. Also don't understand how her father got 5 months and her mother only got 2.... Why didn't they both get 5 months??? I'm not gonna say the reason but I have a feeling I know, lmao.

  • Regarding Olivia Jade, i think people forget very quickly that for decades, benefactors donated hundreds of thousands of $ if not millions to universities for certain perks, including but not limited to, who is allowed to go there. I dont mean to condoan what occured, but for so long a lot of people have been doing this so to just point the finger at Lori Laughlin and her family to be guilty of doing the same thing is somewhat hypocritical. How many people have been allowed to go to prestigious universities simply because their family members were benefactors or legacies? it has to be on the same playing field for everyone.

  • I don't think the Giannuli family has any business calling what they did a "mistake." They very much knew what they were doing, and Olivia can't claim that she didn't know she was never on the crew team. I might sympathize with Olivia a little bit if she said something like, "My family put so much pressure on me." Because when you're a kid just barely coming of age, it's extremely hard to go against what you've known your whole life. That's something I'd understand-- if only it were true. I remember reading something about how Felicity Huffman's daughter had no idea that her test scores were being fixed, and she found out when the news broke. Poor girl thought she was actually doing better and when she found out, she broke down in tears asking her mom, "Why didn't you think I could do it?" I feel bad for Huffman's daughter, but no one else here. Both sets of parents knew that they were stealing a spot from a kid who actually had a work ethic. I just wish their sentences were fair.

I feel no sympathy for her since she obviously was involved taking those pictures. College should be made available to anyone who wishes to go but until that happens you shouldn't be able to buy your way in to party and waste people's time.

My parents had funds to “buy” seats, but they are principled people. They did hire tutors, enhancement programs, etc to improve our chances. That’s my sister’s and mine privilege, however, we worked our behinds off to get into Ivy League schools on our own merits. The people would be much more receptive if she had said, “my family and I made a mistake and we are ashamed and sorry.” People will forgive you if you’re sincere and truthful and do something to show you have learned a lesson. Her parents can start a scholarship for HS students to get help with SAT’s or something like that. Show that you care.

  • On the Olivia Jade story: I've known a rich kid, she never had to actually work a day in her life. And one thing I noticed is the moral compass of rich kids tends to be lacking. I'm not sure if it's because the parents are as present for whatever reason, or if the parents concentrate too much on grooming their kids to inherit their business one day, but the kid I knew had the moral understanding of a 3 year old. She didn't understand that some things she said or did was wrong until someone told her. The problem is no one ever told her. All of her friends were too afraid of upsetting her, and people she went to school with didn't want to cross her because she was rich. So, I believe Olivia when she says she didn't realize what she did was wrong, kids like her are taught there's only a few people she can trust (because obviously everyone else just wants money) and she just put too much blind trust in the wrong people. She was just too naïve.

I think she is doing a good thing by apologizing and trying to express her regret. That said, I also agree with Mrs. Pinkett that giving her a platform to do it is letting those with priviledge pull their strings to get what they want. Many other social media influencers and "celebrities" have to use their own instagrams or youtube channels to mitigate fallout. If she wants to clain that she chose to point out her social media, then she clearly sees it as an asset. She should use her own asset like everyone else.
