  • My thoughts: the stimulus should’ve been bigger, and we need a more detailed tier list of what purpose one’s business serves in the local community on a utilitarian standpoint, and prioritize $ stimulus on that basis. (Are you a grocery business, a shipping business, an entertainment business, healthcare business, construction business, childcare or education business, private security business?). It should’ve been $2 Trillion stimulus every month, auto-renewing based on healthcare conditions on the ground.

Smaller companies are important but they cant employ the same workforce as bigger companies. So if you were make big stable companies cut employees for uncertain unstable companies seem like the worst decision.

Edit 2: so Mitch here called democrats out for not "helping families" for declining a "skinny" 500-700 million dollars relief fund, more worried about shielding businesses that want to reopen, while republicans in turn blocked a 3 trillion dollar fund? • CEO here. The responsibility for the f*d up PPP loans lies between the govt and the companies applying for the loans: 1. The government needs to ensure a proper approval process. "Urgent" is not the same as "rushed". Accepting incomplete forms is indefensible 2. Large companies/brands have more resources (legal, administrative, etc.) to secure the loans. They need to be ethical and stand back. Genuine business need to keep employees is fine (because that's the end-goal) however this is NOT a business opportunity 3. Small companies have few resources to apply for the PPP loans, need to really focus their efforts and secure them. A lot won't even apply because they perceive it as hard, but you've got to fight for your employees

I wish these people had paid more attention BEFORE the riots started happening and maybe educated themselves on the reason behind the kneeling instead of getting immediately outraged that it is "disrespecting the flag" and all the rest. Maybe we could have started solving the problems before any riots started to happen and maybe even avoided them entirely.

  • My parents own a preschool and we were not approved for a PPP loan during the first wave. We only had 4 employees at the time and the loan amount we were asking for was significantly less than the loans we were hearing about in the news. We kept paying our employees even though our enrollment was about 20% capacity which meant we were LOSING money but we did not want to lay off our teachers that worked really hard for us. We did eventually have to cut their hours because we simply couldn't afford it anymore until FINALLY we were approved. It was absolute hell trying to navigate through everything and worrying about whether or not we were going to survive this. We have only had the business for two years, so this year we were expected to get revenue (since the first year we put a lot of money to fix up the school) but that all changed and we had very little support from the government.

Columbia is a small town of 115,000 but is the 5th most infectious city in the U.S. because of how Mizzou is responding to this. They had 35 confirmed athlete cases before the school year started and STILL hasn't cancelled sporting events. I've had to sneak out the back door of my office because of all the kids willfully packed together in the lobby, and when reported to MUPD they gave me little more than a shrug. I don't even go to this school and I have to risk my health and sacrifice my peace of mind all so the kids at this idiot party college can infect half the city

    Alex BrownAlex Brown2 mánuðum síðan
    • For added context, Columbia MO has 4 colleges just within its city limits, and two on the outskirts of the town, but none of these other schools have had anywhere near the same level of problems as Mizzou, MACC was already small and now is almost entirely online, and Columbia College Give students options of whether they want to attend in-seat or online and are going to go online completely after thanksgiving break (or earlier if things keep going downhill) due to concerns that the change in weather may lead to higher cases. One of the more ironic things about Mizzou boasting about their Journalism department is that it was exposure to infected at a JOURNALISM CONFERENCE that first led to the mass infections in town, my sister had to flee the city because she has an immune disorder, and because I'm reliant on public transport that is partially run by Mizzou as most things in Columbia are, I've not felt safe going home to see my family.

  • I currently attend Mizzou and I think the COVID precautions have been commendable so far. I personally haven’t had to get tested so I don’t know of any struggles with delivered food but Mizzou has made it easy to take out food from all eateries so students can eat safely outdoors or in dorms. On the topic of the sinks, I had a similar problem with motion sensor sinks in what could be the same location except I was able to get at least one sink to work. I also went back to the same restroom about 3 days later and all sinks were working. Finally, when I compare my classes to my friends that attend Missouri State University mine seem much safer. I have been told that spacing in select lecture halls at MSU have students seated every other seat where in my experience at Mizzou there is at least 6 seats between each student. Not to mention many classes have been moved online and all classes allow students to attend online for safety reasons.

However, we don't live in an idealized, fair world. We live in a capitalist one where smaller people trying to make their lives not suck as much in this system. I get that your country is in a better state than others (I mean, not right now), but why are you SO obsessed with your flag and your anthem? Like Holy shit, it isn't your religion. Or is it? And if it were, you WOULD be kneeling. You say it's for fallen soldiers... So wouldn't kneeling make more sense? In the same way we have our flags at half-mast for remembrance? Don't get me wrong, I love my country. I'm so freaking grateful and relieved that I live in Canada, and it is beautiful and fair. But I'm not going to fucking waste all my energy and cry if someone isn't patriotic enough. I don't get Americans need to waste SO MUCH energy on hating things that in no way effect them personally. • I can not stress enough with this Mr. Beast drama that used the money to open a food bank, something that I think is greatly needed at this time. He is by no means a bad person, not to say that he's Jesus, but he is one of the most charitable and kind people you will see. F*CK Jeffery Star tho.

  • I’ve been back on campus for early move in for just over a week and a majority of the students here have had, been exposed to, or currently have covid & the school isn’t talking about it/warning the rest of the students that move here next week 🤦🏽‍♀️ We are continuing the school year as normal and in person

  • as a student at a big 12 university, they don't give a shit about the virus lol. even with my school where most of the top programs are medical-related, there have been muiltiple large frat/sorority parties that they haven't acknowledged, even the staff in charge of running greek life participates in the activites. there was recently a big party by the football stadium after our first game and public shaming by our community isn't enough for the uni to say anything... im lucky i have 0 solely in-person classes (i only have 1 in person but it's optional to show up, the only difference is in-person critiques cause it's drawing)

  • I 100% believe the money should have gone to more mom and pop businesses that had to close and it affected their entire family.... those rich business owners would have been able to take the hit and would have survived and continued prospering. You can’t tell me those people would have had to quit any of their Businesses....

  • Please cover the controversy regarding twitch streaming SkarmTV, who was convicted of engaging in sexual acts with a 13yo that is still receiving support from the gaming community despite streaming content that children the same age as the girl he raped is. He served his time yes, but is it appropriate for a sexual predator to be allowed to stream children's games?

  • That skinny bill is a joke. Like most of it (except maybe the childcare part) would not touch the average family that needs financial assistance due to job loss.

  • The larger companies/ wealthier individuals should not have received the loans. The smaller mom and pop not only could (and many did) lose their business, but the owners their livelyhood as well. Those businesses will never be able to give jobs back. The larger companies may have taken a hit, but they will probably bounce back and be hiring again without aid. Also, the wealthier individuals could help employees of their own business, just as easily as a stranger on the street.

  • I understand the general distrust of the government and politicians, but people need to understand that benefits one party much, much more than it benefits the other. "All politicians are bad" does nothing but let the worst off the hook.
