  • I didn't even know that no-knock warrants existed. I understand the reasons why such a thing would exist, but you live in a country where people have the right to arms and to defend their property against intruders. To execute a no-knock warrant in plain clothes in the middle of the night at the house of someone who is just hearsay involved (and on shaky ground at that) isn't just all sorts of unethical. It's downright stupid! The officers themselves are lucky they didn't get killed. The whole thing sounds all sorts of shady. They better sort out this whole mess and get some justice for that poor girl. The amount of innocent lives that are lost over not following protocol and officials (whether judges, cops, or mayors) having their heads up their own ass is absolutely astounding.

They are directly responsible for her death, but they also didn’t do anything against the law because they had a no knowledge warrant. However it seems like they made a mistake by not announcing themselves after being asked who they were. Idk it’s a tricky situation. I personally think they should get charged with manslaughter because someone is dead as a result of their actions.

  • The discrimination decision by SCOTUS much like gay marriage decision has an admirable primary effect, but negative secondary and tertiary effects on the U.S. government's separate coequal branches. The legislative branch continually sits on their hands or provides political theater prior to overreaches by POTUS and SCOTUS. The Congress and Courts need term limits instead of de facto (gerry-mandered) or officially appointed life-time terms in office.

  • To me the craziest part of the Breonna Taylor case is that the judge _agreed_ to a no-knock when NO ONE IN THE APARTMENT had a criminal record or were suspected of anything in-particular AND they knew she was also a cop... Why not just go over and knock like a normal warrant? And WTF is with the plain-clothes? Plus like... not only did the judge okay the warrant but another entity had to submit that _specific_ request. Could have been an chief or even a DA. To me, THOSE are the people that should be held most responsible for this. It's like anyone who put any logic into this situation is asking for it to go terribly wrong, which is probably why the cops (allegedly) knocked anyway. If that's true. I don't think there's anything INHERENTLY wrong with no-knock and plain-clothes warrants. In certain situation I'm sure they could mean _saving_ lives. But they should be reserved ONLY for like... drug-lords and shit where the people on the other side of the door would arm themselves in anticipation of a gunfight given the warning/opportunity. They should NOT be used on average citizens or low-level criminals, and for what is effectively a CHECKUP on some VAGUELY "suspicious" activity. I don't think it needs to be all or nothing. I think an all-or-nothing world is extremely dangerous for everyone.

How long does it take a human to look at the file before it goes live and see that it's faulty, half-a-second? And this is AFTER three police officers incompetently murdered a black child, how little of a shit must the department give in their day-to-day duties?

And sex based rights protect you from such discrimination.

  • The police officers didn't do anything illegal, they operated well within their power. A no-knock warrant is a search warrant authorizing police officers to enter certain premises without first knocking and announcing their presence or purpose prior to entering the premises. Such warrants are issued where an entry pursuant to the knock-and-announce rule would lead to the destruction of the objects for which the police are searching or would compromise the safety of the police or another individuals. They were searching for drugs, with reasonable cause or else they wouldn't have had the no-knock warrant, and they issued it to ensure they did not dump any possible contraband. The police were shot at first and the standard procedure is to protect your well being above all else. They fired 20 shots, she was hit with 8. It was a horrible thing that happened but that doesn't make it police brutality. More white people are killed in police shootings than non whites. The only reason this is a rising issue is because this is a justification for BLM to protest; All of the BLM protesters have heard and learned of the civil rights movements that happened during the 60's, and they want to be part of some sort of modern revolutionary movement. Please try to remember that Black males, who are 7% of the US population, are responsible for 50% of violent crime. I don't believe that systemic racism is a thing when we have 3rd or 4th generation welfare patients, they simply don't want things to change.

  • No knock warrants have no place in a just society. It doesn't matter the context of trying to enact one, anyone you're using one against is going to be at the very least confused. If someone is breaking into your home and you have no idea who it is... what is your first reaction going to be? To panic, find the closest thing that resembles a weapon, and prepare to defend yourself. It does nothing but put the person / people in question into more danger (attempting to defend themselves turns into cops feeling threatened and then deciding to use lethal force against someone who has no idea what's going on), as well as put the lives of LEO's into more danger as well as they've now got a frightened, panicked person who's trying to defend themselves against an unknown force to contend with. Nobody is safer in the execution of a no-knock warrant. Nobody.

  • Why don't they just add the word gender or gender-identity into that healthcare discrimination law instead of making a new definition of the word 'sex' which is objectively wrong? Actually, why does there even need to be a healthcare discrimination law in the first place? Doesn't the US have a law banning discrimination in all forms and situations?

    BaponatorBaponator5 mánuðum síðan
    • That's not the way it works here. There is no federal blanket anti-discrimination law for every situation, so states have to make their own laws on discrimination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 covers some situations, but not all of them. The expansion of the definition of 'sex' to include sexual orientation was not "objectively wrong". As the Supreme Court decision points out, you cannot discriminate against someone for their sexual orientation without regard for their sex. Words do not always mean the same thing in law as they do in common speech.
