Everyone on the other side is calling him mean and nasty & then they go share his info trying to tear down his company and have people go attack him online. How are you any better??? The hypocrisy! And they don't even see it. They will never admit they aren't perfect, if fact they are just as bad. Using force and bullying to get what they want.

  • I’ve taken birth control since I was 12, not because I was sexually active or really am particularly sexually active even now, I use it to regulate my hormone levels to prevent cysts from developing on my ovaries and uterus. Being blocked access to birth control would actually *endanger* my reproductive health and ability to have children, which so many lawmakers involved with women’s reproductive health seem most concerned about.

FULL TIME employment at that, meaning the company could simply hire you as "part time" and require that you work 39 hrs per week *cough cough* walmart, and then they dont have to give you shit. Our health care makes no sense.

  • As someone who has been a public school teacher, teacher trainer, and district consultant, nursery volunteer, and who has department heads and other school administrators and staff in my circle of family and friends: reopening schools right now is garbage. Let's talk about younger kids. They might be less likely to catch Covid, but even if only .5% of elementary students going back to school get sick, that's still 300, 000 kids. The idea that we would expose 300,000 children to a totally preventable, potentially fatal harm for any reason is completely unacceptable. It's also important to note that when we say "catch" what we really mean is "get noticeably sick" -- kids can still be carriers and harbor the virus in their bodies, spreading it to more vulnerable members of the population (at home or in public spaces like stores or public transit) without showing symptoms. It's also important to note that when we say "children are less likely to catch Covid", we mean if the level of exposure is the same (for example, passing an infected stranger at the grocery store). As someone who has worked with young kids I can tell you with absolute certainty: you can expect more exposure than that. There is not a single hour that passes in public school without a kid putting something in their mouth (which then gets touched by multiple other students if the teacher doesn't see it happen), fingers get put in eyes, noses, and mouths, personal items get swapped and shared, boogers get wiped on surfaces, coughs and sneezes go uncovered, etc. If a single child comes to school infected, the entire class would be infected by the end of the day. Period. Guidelines for 'safe' reopening ignore all of these realities and instead depend on each student having a huge radius of space to themselves, not sharing ANY supplies, not touching ANY other student or ANY common surfaces, etc. Even if this were physically possible (and trust me, it's not) it would be impossibly expensive even for the most privileged and well-funded of private schools, let alone your average public school. I have taught in classrooms of more than 40 students with desks so crammed together that chubbier students have to climb over desks because they can't pass in between rows, but somehow we're supposed to get down to 10 students per room (the lifelong teacher dream, btw) and keep everyone 6ft apart? Regardless of what you think the motivations for this push are, anyone who has ever taught in school has to admit that it's simply impossible to open 'safely' as DeVos claims, and even if we could somehow magically produce the billions of dollars needed to make those changes in each district, it would still not be as safe as people (who have never been in a classroom in their lives) are claiming. Luckily, schools are not like hospitals or grocery stores: teaching can be done 100% online without any additional risk to students, teachers, or other staff. I wish I could be surprised by the current administration's push to strong-arm schools into doing what's worst for students and staff but best for political optics, but since the Department of Education is headed by someone who has shown perhaps more scorn for children's education than any other government official in recent history, this is less a surprise and more another in a long string of attempts by DeVos to endanger students for what I can only assume is personal gain--since the winners here are certainly not students or staff.

  • A lot of the international students have some kind of job along with housing that's not on campus that they have to take care of. Even though they are on a student visa, they have other responsibilities to take care of that they currently deal with living in America. And some aren't able to go back to their home countries because of circumstances beyond their control.

  • We have kids back at school in Australia, though here in Victoria we have had a surge in cases, so the postcodes with high transmission rate have been asked to keep kids home to learn. However, they remain open for those parents who must work, or for at risk children. It’s working for us, perhaps it’s worth looking at in the US? I understand the fear of opening schools right now, but my main concern is the kids who are stuck at home, when school was their only safe place to be. It happens more often than people realise.

  • Dane here: We are able to open schools because we closed the goddamn country down for two months when the cases were at their highest. Also, because Denmark is a country with even just a tiny amount of logic, the government provided/are providing help packages (sorry, this is directly translated from Danish) to businesses affected by this closure (i.e. restaurants, gyms, zoos). Therefore, having the whole country closed down, we saw fewer and fewer cases and thus were able to open up, little by little.

  • A big BIG concern that hasn't been touched on in this video is the adults that work in the schools. What about their health risk? I don't know what the statistics are of older folks in education but most of my teachers would be part of the at-risk population. Yes it's great that the kids may not catch it but it's still gatherings of kids. If social distancing is to take place, more groups of kids may require more educators and supervisors. How can we keep them safe?

  • Visas- Just an excuse to be racist and kick people out of the country. Schools- Sure, the kids won't get seriously sick, but what about everyone else they are in contact with? Their parents, grandparents, teachers, etc. That's where the real problem resides. So many people will die once schools open... Birth Control- Funny how it's men who think birth control should be banned. Is the government going to pay for the child they are literally forcing me to have? Don't think so.

On top of that, there are many women who have never had sex/virgins but also use contraceptives because, News flash! And also we aren't gonna do any work on the foster care system so you'll have no idea if the child you're being forced to have will end up in a good place. • The religious freedom question is abused. This isn't about the right to freedom, it's about being allowed to control others and force your values on them. If you have objections to providing what the law (and any ethical system of thought) would consider you responsible of providing, you just shut your shitshow of a business down, cause you're clearly not responsible enough to run a business that people depend on. That should be the only question when it comes to religious freedom: Whether you want to conduct your business in a responsible and ethical way, or if you want to be an insular, inbred fuckface with no business.

Sit there and hope the liberals win the fight for you against the gov, or, the better option, demonstrate on campus how you need enough classes opened up. Its really not that much to ask for from a University. Hoping other people will win at allowing you to stay is foolish. ALL people in their 20s, including students btw, are exposing themselves to Covid more than anyone else already anyway. The fears are unfounded as the schools can do what EVERYONE ELSE is doing and have some social distancing rules, mask rules, sanitizer rules, so on, and simply open a few fucking classes.

They've implemented a fully online system as well as offering in-school teaching. They sent out surveys in early summer asking for our input and showed us the results of that input, as well as what the teachers and staff are wanting. It's certainly not going to be perfect, but it appears they're trying to accommodate everyone. My husband and I have decided that we're going to be doing online learning this year, but we're lucky in that my husband's place of work (he's an engineer) is allowing him to work from home while I'm a SAHM and will be doing all the "peripheral" teaching for the kids. There are many, many families who can't afford to do this for a wide variety of reasons. It's a terrible situation.

Practicing some of their beliefs that work in favor of their wallet and ignoring the beliefs that don't should be more polarizing. Too many times have I come across individuals who practice Christianity but then blaspheme themselves with a hypocritical comment or idea. Many of the bible verses used to justify their stance on a topic are left to intense interpretation and very well could've been taken as the opposite. Who truly has the social and morale power to say their definition of the Bible, or any holy text for that matter, is the right one? It would be a site to behold as these people of power get dismantled the same way a mega church's religious leader does after being caught embezzling money from their congregation or is found out to fail to follow the teachings they give to others.

  • This whole religious belief policy thing is ridiculous. The employees have a perfectly valid belief in the use of contraceptives and being part of their personal healthcare that is already being paid out by their companies, the only reason to push this is that the doctors/hospitals are demanding more money for such things due to other bias and in order to squeeze that onion for another dime they need these regulations removed. All in all it isn't a matter of belief, but greed that is the issue

  • funny that when we bring up how norway’s prison system is much more humane and effective we get told that we can’t compare our country to the usa, but when it comes to covid we’re an example to follow because we’ve successfully opened our schools.

  • I hope ICE realizes how much the student visa policy would hurt the economy. Look at how many international students come to the US to get an education. They pay for housing/rent, they pay for food, they put money into the American economy. If the administration is so concerned for our economy...why try to block those students from living here?

  • Birth control is not necessary healthcare. Other healthcare should be publicly funded, especially emergency stuff. But birth control? Johnnies aren't that expensive. If you can't afford them, then there's a bigger problem that you need to figure out.

  • I work at a community college, and I would LOVE if my school opened back up so I can work. I don't get paid if the school doesn't have events. However, I need money to not take precedence over human life. The fact that Trump's government is not acknowledging that is sickening.
