  • To everyone seeing these people like Bryce Hall partying in a pandemic, thank you for not immediately thinking, "Well if they aren't going to be careful about this, then neither will I". Ive seen that happen with some people I know, so thank you for being better than that.

    Philip DeFrancoPhilip DeFranco3 mánuðum síðan
    • Here's what I want to know... How many of those people at partied have gotten sick? I'm not talking testing positive... I'm talking sick enough to take medicine or see a doctor. The risk to young healthy people is super low, so why are we freaking out? Whay are we insulting and degrading people who are making the best choice for them based on the information they are seeing? We can trust people to not be dumb given they get good information. That's the problem though, most people aren't getting the good information, they're getting fear-inducing panic p**n that makes them feel like others are selfish for not believing unproven information. Stop attacking and parroting and PROVE the facts.

    • @SorrensSorrow but you have to use that knowledge on everything. Not just parties. Out in public. At home even. It doesn't seem right we punish those within private property. Cause that means you can't be around friends in your own home wothout a mask on. I'd doestn matter how many people there are if they are together. Just seems like a double standard.

It was pretty bad here. And made worse by incompetent partisan politics. See the city of Cedar Rapids that was mentioned in the video tends to vote Democrat, so the Republican Governor drug her feet before offering any assistance or sending in the National Guard to help, even though it's the second largest city in the state.

  • Corona cases are up but hospitalisations are down and the mortality rate was downgraded to just 0.4%. Those parties actually may not be a bad thing because summer exposures have a lower average viral load meaning less cases of serious illness. That’s why we don’t get sick with other flus in the summer but they stay in circulation. If this virus acts like other viruses, which I think it’s safe to say it does, then it’s likely to get stronger in the winter.

  • See, I see it the other way. Pointing out the psychological and emotional distress the lockdowns are causing, I don't see that as an argument the other must abide the lockdowns, but rather to call in to question the lockdowns themselves. A big problem is that it has devolved into a shouting match between obey the lockdowns versus flouting the lockdowns. Shouldn't we be discussing the NET value and utility of the lockdowns? Nobody seems to be discussing just how much benefit is there (partly because we're not allowed to discus that - just STFU and OBEY). When did the left stop being the philosophy of question authority to become the dogma of OBEY without question? Sure, social distance and wear masks, what's the big deal? But to release actual criminals from prison and then throw good people into prison just because they want to run a business to make a living and people want to patronize that business to gain the benefit of their product is egregious authoritarianism that is beyond the pale. To tun off people's power and water just because they didn't bend the knee to your overbearing demands is authoritarianism. As I say, to turn it around - I find it narcissistic and selfish to expect everyone else to give up living their lives just because you are too scared. If you're scared stay home. Why does everyone else have to be made to suffer and stay home just because you choose to?

I live in Marshalltown, a small city north of Des Moines and just on my block alone there was massive damage, whole trees uprooted and fallen across the road. Some people were stranded in their homes because the stairs leading to their unit were blown away. Thankfully the local support has been fantastic. The major industries in town have offered food and support to affected families and residents and communities came together to clear debris and care for one another.

If you suddenly want to increase the postal volume, you need at least a 3 month warning, because government agencies move slowly. Blaming Trump for normal USPS operations... 🙄 Dems are desperate. Trump obviously doesn't believe he needs to cheat to win. His perspective is that the Dems want to cheat. So now we'll have an election where both sides will blame the other for cheating regardless who wins. Pelosi is a political monster.

I live in the city of Des Moines, so luckily the biggest thing I had to deal with was working from home without WiFi for a week, which is NOTHING in comparison to what others are facing. The situation farmers and other people around the state are in is just devastating. As if our farmers don’t work their asses off as it is. Cedar Rapids was hit incredibly hard and many are still without power almost 2 weeks later (in the dead of summer). Our big chain grocery stores had to throw out over $100k in food (you’d think they’d have generators or disaster plans for that but guess not). Also just heard about a firefighter who was a mother of 5 and killed during the storm when a tree fell through their roof onto her - in front of 2 of the kids and her husband. Thanks for taking the time to bring attention to our state that is usually looked over.

  • Iowan here: I'm an iowa native in the area the got hit worst by the storm (gusts of130 mph winds). It's an absolute disaster zone. So many have lost there houses, basically most homes will get reshingled roofs or whole new roofs built. Huge hundred year old trees fallen everywhere.... we are lucky it hadn't rained before and soaked the ground otherwise we would have lost dam near every tree in the county. And insurance won't help with trees unless they fall on your house or some structure on your property. So thousands of people are left with 5k+ in just tree removals. And that isn't even getting into the farm and crop damages. But we are #iowastrong and we will make it with the support of our neighbors. But being honest the state and federal government have lacked in this disaster. Just starting off with the weather service, no one knew what was coming our way. We were literally told it was severe thunderstorms, which is pretty common in iowa around this time. People were still on the road when this hit. On my drive home that day there were 30+ semis rolled over on the side of the interstate. We were hit by a equivalent of a cat 2 hurricane and were not given hardly any notice. My work building almost came down with all us in it. It was absolutely terrifying (and remember many Midwestern sit outside watching tornados so we don't scare easy with weather). But many are still without power and many without water. This is probably worse than the 2008 500 year flood.... because we couldn't prepare at all.

  • I turned 22 in April and I celebrated it with my mother, my Sims, and my cat. These influencers have no excuse.

  • Won’t be surprised when Iowa gets everything they need while Puerto Ricans continue to suffer.

  • I live in Cedar Rapids, and this is the first I've been able to use the internet and watch this video because I haven't had power in 11 days, since the storm. I'm at my mom's house, who got power and internet back last night, so I came to her house to catch up on ISworlds. (By the way, I've been a fan for years, but some beautiful bastard mentioned this specific video on our FB page for Derecho relief and information, so I came to this video to show it to my mom.) 1. Thank you for mentioning our issues here in Iowa after the storm. We need the coverage. 2. Now we're mad because Trump didn't sign any relief for individuals or businesses damaged by the storm... the relief he signed (so far) is only for government buildings and infrastructure. 3. It's still bad here. Still. Many people still don't have power. Many people are unable to afford to fill up their food supply after it was spoiled in their fridges and freezers with no power. People without power still can't cook food, unless they are lucky enough to own a grill or something. 50% of the tree cover in Cedar Rapids is gone, many of those trees falling on houses. Some folks still haven't found a company to remove trees from their houses. That picture of the apartment building with no top floor was a few blocks from my house, and many many more buildings look like that... so many homeless folks now. The wind speeds in Cedar Rapids are now being estimated at 140 mph during the storm, which is Category 4 hurricane winds. In Iowa. Where we didn't have warning to secure our homes or evacuate or take shelter. Where our buildings are not built to code to withstand winds that high. Insurance adjusters are coming from Florida and Texas to look at their clients' houses and are saying that this is the WORST they've seen... people who look at hurricane damage for a living. 4. So again, thanks for including our struggles in your video.
